Days to Maturity: Second season for natural dye blooms
Weld is a biennial natural dye plant used to make a bright yellow dye (shown on wool in the second photo). The candle-shaped flowering stalks for dye are harvested in the second year. A pollinator favorite, the second-year blossoms smell deliciously fragrant!

Planting Instructions: Start Weld seeds indoors 8 weeks before last frost, and transplant after frost, or plant directly outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Sprinkle seeds on the top of the soil and only lightly cover with soil, as they require light to germinate. Use a generous amount of seed, as some seeds will naturally be dormant and come up later. Be patient and keep lightly moist as seeds take up to a month to germinate! Thin plants to 2 feet for the second year.
Seed Saving Instructions: In second year, allow flowering stalks to go to seed. Collect Weld seed when fully dry. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
