Skullcap, Official (Scutellaria lateriflora)

Skullcap is a native perennial plant in the mint family that has lovely blue flowers formed by two tongue-like petals. The petals of this plant are said to bear resemblance to the helmets of medieval European soldiers which is how it got its common name Skullcap. They like to grow near wetlands and marshes and are dotted throughout damp forest edges in the wild.
