Cucumis sativus

Days to Maturity: 70-75 days

A classic heirloom variety bred specifically for pickling, National Pickling Cucumbers are also crisp and delicious eaten raw. The cucumbers are about 6" long and have a crisp, tender texture with small seeds - ideal for crunchy pickles! This variety is known for high yields and disease resistance, especially against scab and mosaic virus. Trellising can help improve yields and keep fruit off the ground. We loved that these cucumbers were so easy to grow, with prolific fruit production and hardy plants.

Planting Instructions: Start National Pickling Cucumber seeds indoors 3 weeks before last spring frost and transplant after all danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed a bit. Or direct sow 1/2" deep, 12-18" apart in rows 36-60" apart. Water at the base of the plant and keep soil evenly moist.

Seed Saving Instructions: Allow National Pickling cucumbers to grow large and yellow, well after normal harvest time. Harvest fruits before first autumn frost. Cut open and scoop seeds out with surrounding gel. Ferment in a jar with cloth secured over top for a day. Strain and dry seeds. Store National Pickling Cucumber seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.
