Solanum lycopersicum

Days to Maturity: 80 from transplant

Italian Winter tomato is a storage tomato bred for its thick skin to stay fresh during the winter! Harvest the entire tomato vines in the fall before the last frost and hang the vines in a cool place indoors. That's it-- no canning necessary! Italian winter tomatoes are best for sauces, soups, and other cooked tomato recipes.

Grown by Groundwork in Paonia, CO.

Planting Instructions: Start Italian Winter Tomato seeds indoors under grow lights or in a greenhouse 6-10 weeks before last frost. Transplant 2+ weeks after last frost when soil has warmed a bit. Space plants at least 4 feet apart. Support growth with tomato cages, a trellis or wire. Water regularly but avoid overwatering (soil should be moist but not wet).

Seed Saving Instructions: When fully ripe, pick your tastiest fruits from the most vigorous plants. Cut open and squeeze seeds and juice into a jar. Secure a cloth over the jar so air can enter. Ferment the juice and seeds in the jar for 2-3 days. Then strain and rinse the seeds. Dry on a screen or cloth. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.

Approx 25 Italian Winter Tomato seeds per packet
