Daucus carota

Days to Maturity: 85

Hardy seed produces full-size, deep red-purple roots with orange cores. High lycopene content makes Dragon carrots a super antioxidant! These carrots do well even in tough soils. You will love the vibrant color and earthy taste. Great in soups and dishes or eaten raw. Developed by John Navazio, one of our seed mentors. Southwest adapted.

Planting Instructions: A cool weather biennial crop. Sow Dragon carrot seed in spring and fall 1/4" deep. Thin to 3-4" apart. Keep moist until seeds germinate-- it is easy for carrot seed to dry out when first planted.

Seed Saving Instructions: At the end of the first season, select tastiest roots for seed saving by tasting a small bite from side or tip of root. In warmer climates like the desert southwest, leave these in the ground to overwinter and cover with straw. In colder climates like the Rocky Mountains, place roots in very slightly moist sand in a root cellar or cool place and re-plant roots in the spring. Carrots will flower and go to seed in 2nd season. Collect seeds when fully dry and crumbling. Store seeds in a cool, dark and dry place.

Approx 300 Dragon carrot seeds per packet
