Blaugrüner x Lilly's Leeks

Days to Maturity: 60-70

Our Blaugrüner x Lilly's leek seed is Colorado & Southwest adapted. Leeks are hardy, cold-tolerant culinary staples that taste similar to an onion but sweeter and milder. Absolutely delicious sauteed in soups, omelets, savory breads, pizza topping more. Try carmelizing to increase sweetness.

We received our original leek seed from Lilly, a lifetime avid Front Range gardener who is a stickler for hardy varieties; and we chose to cross this with Blaugrüner leeks, one of the hardiest, most well-loved leek varieties. This increases the genetic diversity in the seed and the resilience of the crop.

Planting Instructions: In spring & fall, sow Blaugrüner Leek seeds outdoors 1/4" deep, 2-4" apart and keep moist until germinated. Thin to 8-12" apart. Or start indoors in later winter and transplant outside in spring.

Seed Saving Instructions: Choose plants to allow to flower & seed. Beautiful white umbel seedheads will form. Collect black seeds when fully dry and they easily fall into your hand. Store in a cool, dark and dry location in a paper or mesh bag.

Approx 100 leek seeds per packet
